Hey, howdy, hello there! Welcome to "The Strain Brain." My name is Joey Strain, and I am an artist! More specifically, I am an illustrator and designer, with a knack for just about all things whimsical, weird and wonderful.
I'm currently working as the graphic designer for GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, and occasionally teach classes there as well. From print catalogs, to social media graphics, I create branding for aspects of design there for its many programs and events. I graduated from Kutztown University in 20222, with a BFA in Communication Design. I have previously worked as a product layout designer at MailShark, creating print media for large scale marketing campaigns. Other employment includes work in the book publishing industry creating interior illustration, type and page layout, and cover designs for independent publisher, Wild Rose Press, in NYC. I am also involved with the Amos Lemon Burkhart Foundation, which is dedicated to the legacy of artist Amos Burkhart, creativity in young minds, and awareness of addiction and brain diseases. My illustrations have been published in children's books, magazines, and exhibited in galleries in Berks County Pennsylvania, and I run a small business in which I sell self-published zines, illustrations, and custom printed shirts.
I am extremely passionate about illustration and design alike, with an insatiable desire to create and share my strange and scrumptious images with the world. I’m always creating, whether it be for my own personal illustrative ventures, or for freelance clients.
In my spare time I enjoy watching films of all genres (mostly horror), reading graphic novels, and escaping out into nature in search of critters and pretty little things.
